Sedation dentistry

Are you nervous about dental treatment? Have you had bad experience at the dentist’s chair when you were a child? Are you afraid of the dentist? Sleep dentistry is the solution for you! Stress- free, relaxed minutes to remember while all all dental problem is solved.

There are various types of anaesthesia available at our dental practice. What commonly used at Smile & Teeth Dental are

  • Twilight sedation
  • Intravenous (IV) sedation
  • General Anaesthesia

Twilight sedation

This usually refers to mild oral sedative to achieve a “light sedation”. It also heightens the state of comfort and relaxation and thus used for people with mild anxiety.

Intravenous (IV) sedation

This has gained popularity over recent years. Clinical monitoring and blood pressure readings are taken. Sedation begins before any dental treatment is commenced and you will awake when it is all over with no recollection of anything. You are in a very deeply relaxed state from which you are still responsive.

Even with modern technology, we try to make dental care more gentle than ever. That is where Sedation Dentistry comes to play. We understand that people may feel apprehensive about visiting a dentist. Let it be due to dislike of needles, long duration of treatment time, have had a bad experience in the past, or have a low pain threshold, you will no longer have negative experience with dentistry.

General Anaesthesia

General Anaesthesia(GA) means putting a person “to sleep”. Unlike IV sedation where some sort of communication happens, under GA the person is unconscious. GA also requires an anaesthesiologist with a dedicated assistant. Its benefits also include faster treatment and fewer visits for in-depth procedures, implants, veneers, tooth extractions, root canals and more.

Any dental treatments can be performed under general anaesthesia.

You must arrange someone to escort you home after the any kind of sedation. You should not drive or operate any tools or machinery for the rest of the day.

Sedation Dentistry can be used for all types of dental procedures including cleaning, fillings, root canal treatment, crowns, extractions, and dental implants. Multiple procedures, complex treatment and even surgery can be done in the one session because you will be relaxed, comfortable and pain free.

In addition to arranging for someone to drive you home, you should not eat any food for 6 hours and drink ONLY water for 2 hours prior to your appointment. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Also, please follow your treating physicians instructions.
